The Parable of the Tares In this story, the farmer plants good seeds, but while he is sleeping the birds drop tares or bad seeds in the ground. When the servants discover this, they ask the man what to do. He says let them all grow together and when we harvest we will keep the good fruit and burn the bad fruit. Ervin Seale goes on to elucidate this story by suggesting that the bad seed is dropped in our own mind, put there by race suggestion. Ernest Holmes in The Science of Mind defines "race suggestion as a very real thing. Each individual carries around within him many impressions which he has never consciously thought or experienced." And these are affecting OUR world, out picturing as OUR reality. and becoming bad fruit. When we harvest our crop of good mixed with bad, do we then say - "Nothing ever works for me." "This is what I deserve for thinking I could rise above my station." "This is proof that ...." ...

The Sower and the Seed. In case you're wondering what prompted me to start this journal, I am taking a Bible Study class. One of the texts is the Bible itself. Another is Learn To Live: The Meaning of the Parables by Ervin Seale. The story of David and Goliath was not a parable. The main focus of the story was about how a small and inexperienced youth managed to take down the giant. I got focused on the armor, which was one important part of the story. I missed the main point, which I think is not unusual for me. I can easily get caught up in a tangent, weave mental meanderings around it, and get myself thoroughly lost. Today I was meditating on the parable of David and Goliath, I never realized it was a parable. I viewed it as a story about the young man versus the giant, winning with his slingshot against great odds. In the story, Saul gives David his beautiful armor and a sword. David hasn't tried it, so he casts it off and gathers instead 5 smooth stones to put in his wallet. Goliath, the giant of Gath has been appearing before the Israelites for 40 days offering to fight just one of them with the winner determining which people shall be subjected to the other. There are no takers. David, s shepherd, has been sent to the battle arena to find out how his brothers are faring. When he hears Goliath call and offer again to fight one person for dominance, David believes that he is the one to do that. King Saul sees him as an untried youth, but David tells Saul he has slain a lion and a bear that menaced his sheep. David sees Goliath as n...
